Public Walking Tour of Cambridge in Russian: Town and Gown

Cambridge Colleges: Peterhouse, Christ's, and Emmanuel

Event Details

A public walking tour of Cambridge for Russian-speaking people.
Come and join us for a stroll through the city and world-renowned university, where every stone is steeped in history. From Newton to Nabokov, from Byron to Rutherford. And right next door to ancient buildings, you’ll find ultra-modern life thriving and science advancing.

We’ll talk about the mind-blowing pranks and jokes of restless Cambridge students, about great discoveries and mediaeval feuds.

We’ll find out who invented the most useful kettle, what the giant fairytale grasshopper eats, whether you can ask for beer during an exam at Cambridge, who once parked a car on the roof of a university building, where bears once “studied” here, and how many Newtons there were at Cambridge.

We’ll walk along the cobblestone streets where the tireless Newton once strode, and Stephen Hawking wheeled. We’ll visit an authentic pub associated with a major scientific discovery and will explore a couple of Cambridge University colleges. Along the way, we’ll discuss how worldviews and life itself have changed over the centuries, and what Cambridge is like today – both as a university and a city.
